Hunter High School AIDS Walk Team 2010
We are looking for volunteers to walk in the 2010 AIDS Walk on May 17 to raise money for AIDS research, or people who are willing to volunteer to cheer people on along the sidelines or hand out food at rest stations. Service credit will be awarded for the number of volunteer hours.
The AIDS walk is approximately 6.2 miles long and takes an average of 2 - 3 hours. The walk goes through the park and around the city. There are food, drink, and rest stops along the way and people cheering you on the entire time. Walkers ask friends and family to sponsor them and donate either a certain amount of money per mile walked or a lump sum. When walkers are registered, they are assigned a webpage, which will be the link to give people who want to donate. Writing a letter or making phone calls to everyone you can is recommended to try to get donations. Donations can also be brought in check or cash form to the walk, or mailed in to the organization after the walk date.

The national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college scholarship, takes place May 25th and 26th, 2010 in Washington, D. C.
Everyone is invited to participate in an initial Qualifying Round at Hunter on December 17th. The top scoring ten-twelve participants in the Preliminary Round will proceed on to the Final Round & Championship competition, held on January 13th.
Those who are interested can test their geography knowledge with the new and exciting GeoBee Challenge, an online geography quiz at www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee. The game poses 10 new questions a day. You can check out the main site for the competition at www.nationalgeographic.com/geographicbee for additional information. This year’s Bee sponsor, Google, and its site, www.earth.google.com, is another great place to prepare for the competition.

Opening Reception For Friends of Hunter College Hillel
December 9, 2009 • 6:00-8:00 p.m.
The One Soul: When Humanity Fails Holocaust Education Exhibit seeks to inspire and educate viewers about the Holocaust and about how intellectual and emotional responses to the Holocaust can be channeled into constructive action and awareness. This exhibition tells of the unspeakable crimes against humanity during World War II and the soldiers who liberated Western Europe and freed the survivors of Nazi persecution. One Soul Initiative seeks to analyze the historic events of the Holocaust in a way that allows us to consider contemporary lessons and encourages an attitude towards humanity that can counter the horrors of the Holocaust. One Soul seeks to fill the growing schism that is arising between the dying generation of survivors and the new generation of youth that is struggling to comprehend the depths of evil that abounded in the Holocaust. The Holocaust provides multifaceted lessons and inspiration for social action and deeper awareness of the value of the individual within the community.
