Civis Femina Interest Meeting (Time moved permanently)

Due to scheduling conflicts of many of the interested, we have moved our meeting time and location to: Monday, 5th Period, Room 320. Excellence without humanity is worthless."- Harold Koh, former dean of Yale Law School Connect these two ideas together. So many women around the world are deprived of even the most elementary education, but instead are plunged into domestic violence, forced marriages, death in childbirth, and war rape, etc. Civis Femina seeks to empower girls in their young ages to step up and use the power of their education to bring beautiful change to the lives of women that are less privileged. Jot it down quickly on the corner of your notebook, a looseleaf, or back of your homework, whatever and just slip it into our envelopes. G.O. Spelling Bee

Seventh and eighth graders are highly encouraged to sign up for the Spelling Bee, which will be taking place on Dec 3 (Friday) at 3:30 PM in the auditorium. The sign up sheet is located just outside the G.O. Office on the second floor across from the auditorium. The winner of the spelling bee has the opportunity of advancing to the New York State Spelling Bee. We hope to see you there! The Desk

The Desk is having two workshops to give you suggestions on your writing before you submit it to the Scholastic Writing Awards! Come with your work (and your sweet tooth) either Monday, December 6th and Thursday, December 9th during activities in Room 315. Look for the posters for a reminder!

Girls Lacrosse

Girls Lacrosse (coached by Ms. Bowler) will be offering some off-season early morning clinics in the gym on Thursdays from 7:15-8am. These clinics are OPEN TO EVERYONE, including middle schoolers and new players, so please, SPREAD THE WORD! THE FIRST CLINIC WILL MEET THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2ND and is INTENDED FOR FIRST TIME PLAYERS/MEMBERS. This is a great opportunity to learn lacrosse, or to touch up on your skills!!

The Library

The library is happy to announce a new resource for students and faculty:

Through a generous parent donation, LearningExpress Library is now available for the Hunter community. This electronic resource offers practice tests, exercises, and tutorials in a variety of subjects. Under its "College Preparation" menu, it has several different practice AP, SAT, and PSAT practice tests. It also has math and grammar lessons as well as tutorials in various MS and Adobe software, e.g. Excel, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

From home, follow the link on the library home page here: http://www.hchs.hunter.cuny.edu/index.php/library/. When accessing from off-campus, you'll first have to enter your Hunter email username and password to access the LearningExpress site. Once on the site, you can register to create your personal account.

CAPA Fall Banquet Committee

Hunter 4H urban pathways drive:

What is it? It's a necessities drive for homeless that include donating toothbrushes, toilet papers, clothing etc. The drive will run until Dec 15th or 17th, when we'll collect our necessities and give it to the urban pathways committee, in which they will make gift baskets worth $25 each and donate it to the homeless. Collection boxes will be in the first floor main entrance and also the community service office. We are also accepting monetary donations, if the recipient could email Hunter4H@gmail.com and organize a time and place to collect the money (we will buy necessities with the collected money).

The Fall Annual Fund Drive kicked off this week! The Annual Fund is the primary fund raising project for the PTA. Those families who have not yet contributed this year should have received a packet in the mail highlighting the importance of this initiative. The suggested contribution is $1000 per child, but any amount is welcome. We encourage 100% participation! Submit before the end of the year to get your tax deduction. Donate online at HunterPTA.org, or send a check to HCHS PTA Annual Fund, 71 E. 94th St., NY, NY 10128. CAPA Fall Banquet Committee

The Eclectic

Print Edition Release - Monday November 15th.The first print edition of The Eclectic's magazine will be available at the two main entrances before school. This publication is a wonderful collection of contributions from Hunterites on a diversity of topics, so please pick up a copy~ we have many =] Also, don't forget to check out our online magazine (running full-time, even throughout the summer!) at www.huntereclectic.com. All of our print edition articles can be found there as well. Article Signups - Wednesday November 17th Activities Period in Room TBA (check out our flyers - coming Monday). We will be holding a simple walk-in Article Signups day during our club period this week. If you can't make it, what's awesome about the Eclectic is that anyone can contribute and/or join, anytime. Jewish Cultural Awareness Club

Tapestry, Monday Activities (208)

Tapestry, the only Sci-fi/Fantasy publication in all the land of Hunter, invites you to submit writing or art to our Winter Contests. For writing, Knights and Ladies are encouraged to produce the best fairy tale with a twist (example: who was Little Red Riding Hood really going to see that day?). For art, feel free to email 8.5 by 11 inches of whatever you wish, full color—there’s no theme to the contest. Please deliver submissions by horse to Tapestry's folders, located outside Room 318 and on our board, or email them to huntertapestry@gmail.com by December 13th. Prizes include $20 Barnes and Noble gift cards. Stop by our meetings during Activities period on Mondays, in room 208 and join in intellectual discussions of fantastic (in both senses of the word) vigor!

Youth Philanthropy Worldwide (YPW) Thanksgiving Luncheon

Tuesday, November 16th during Activities and 5th. Come eat traditional Thanksgiving food (& more) in honor of, well, Thanksgiving! All proceeds go to Friends of Ecuador in support of the disabled population in Pedernales. 90% of the population come from impoverished families and need our help!

2012 & 2016 Term Councils: Letter-Writing to Soldiers

The 7th and 11th grade Term Councils are teaming up this Tuesday to write letters to servicemen and women stationed overseas. Come and show your appreciation for their dedication and the sacrifices they've made - it will really help brighten a soldier's day. This is a 2012/2016 event, but members of other grades are welcome as well. Please join us Tuesday, November 16th, 11:30-11:50 in Room 433. Arts Days Auditions

All students are encouraged to audition for Arts Days. Auditions will be held Monday, November 15th during Activities and Fifth Periods, and on Wednesday, November 17th during Activities, in room 227. Interested students should sign up for an audition time on the door of Room 205. Students who are accepted will perform on the upcoming Arts Days, Monday, November 22 and Tuesday, November 23. Please contact a member of the music department faculty with any questions.

2010 Fall Cultural Banquet

It’s the time of year!! HCHS PTA and CAPA are proudly present to you the 2010 Fall Cultural Banquet which is going to take place on Sunday, December 12, 2010. HAAH Baked Potato Luncheon

Friday November 12th during Activities to Fifth Pd. (11:14-11:54)

Only $4 for a baked potato or sweet potato, your choice of toppings and soda! All proceeds go towards charities combating hunger both internationally and locally. In addition, funds will be used to purchase food, clothing and toiletries

The Laughter Club

HS Make-up Photo Day on Monday, November 15, 10am-2pm. Order information is available in the HS Main Office (240) or online from LIFETOUCH (http://www.lifetouch.com). If families wish to order pictures from the makeup session, they MUST send the check and order form with the student on Monday, November 15th or process the order online. The school will NOT accept order forms after the photographers leave on the 15th at 2pm. Location for the pictures will be announced closer to the date, please check signs outside the HS Main Office for the location of the photographers (probably either the auditorium or mini-gym, stay tuned!).

PTA

On Wed, Nov 10, the PTA is organizing a meeting to discuss and share information relating to how Hunter students use the internet (for academics, social activities, communication and entertainment). We are looking for at least 6-8 student volunteers (grades 8-12) to demonstrate and share their views on how and where they and their peers navigate on the internet (Blackboard, Facebook, Skype are possibilites), and also to review what capabilities best serve their needs (ie., smartphones and their alternatives). Student volunteers would be asked to join a couple of parents for a preparatory meeting from 6-7 and then attend the PTA meeting from 7-8. A number of outside speakers are also being invited to follow on the students' discussion. If you're interested, please respond to June Yuson (jyusonho@hotmail.com).
