FROM THE DEPARTMENTS

From the Social Studies Department
Juniors and Seniors: This year marks the Social Studies Department's Washington Seminar on Government in Action's 60th year! Apply to participate in this great school tradition. We accept approximately 30 students each year. Meetings will be held on Fridays during Activities and 5th Period. We will leave for Washington on Sunday, May 23rd and return on Wednesday May 26th. Last year we met with a Supreme Court Justice, the Solicitor General and many others. Who will you get to meet with this year? It is up to you! Applications can be found outside the Social Studies offWashington Seminar In Box in room 336 by Friday October 9th. As you fill out the application remember that this is a rigorous seminar in public policy. Students will meet weekly to share research and discuss issues they find interesting and important. You will decide who to write letters to and hopefully we will put together another fabulous itinerary for this spring. For Seniors who attended Wash Sem last year and are interested in becoming a Fellow, please submit your name on a piece of paper to the Wash Sem In Box by Tuesday October 6th. (there is no application--selection will be based on last year's performance and overall academic standing). Questions should be addressed to your social studies teacher or Mr. Joffe.
