The Asian Cultural Society's Annual Cultural Show is on Tuesday. Thursday is a 5-9 half-day with Parent-Teacher Conferences taking place from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm. Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Artillery
Artillery, Hunter’s premier online art gallery, is holding its annual contest! This year the theme is Hayao Miyazaki, who is famous for directing films such as Spirited Away, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, just to name a few. The deadline is Friday, March 26th; all media accepted. You can submit by placing your work in the manila folder in front of room 325. Tapestry
Tapestry, Hunter’s only science fiction and fantasy magazine for grades 1-12, is opening its second art and writing contest. The theme of the art contest is a futurist universe, or, for a twist, retro-futurism. The prize is a Pearl Paint gift card and, of course, being published on the front cover of Tapestry’s spring issue. Please make sure submissions are 8.5” by 11”, with full color. The theme of the writing contest is exploring punk subculture in literature, such as steampunk, cyberpunk, biopunk, apocapunk, clockpunk, dieselpunk, etc. Winners receive a Barnes and Noble gift card. BoxTops Collection At Hunter!
Do you want to make a difference at Hunter?
Beginning this week, we will be collecting boxtops in the lobby at anytime as part of this pilot boxtops collection program. Boxtops can be found on everyday products like cereal or tissue boxes and are worth 10 cents each to the school! The money raised from boxtops collection will be used towards in-school projects voted upon by the students.

American Red Cross
Join us in order to help victims of natural disasters! And work with the Red Cross Chapter in Greater New York. We are focused on helping people! Learn how to become a trained youth volunteer by attending the meetings! Specific activities that we do: Going into the chapter and preapring first aid kits, resource bags, etc. to be shipped to countries w/ recent disasters (i.e. Haiti). We are also currently preparing for the Let It Rock Concert on April 2nd (all proceeds go towards the International Relief Fund)

Students for Environmental Action (SEA)
SEA meets every Tuesday during activities period to discuss green issues within and beyond the Hunter community. In the coming weeks, we will be organizing a school-wide park cleanup, planning a panel discussion on environmental issues, and instituting a revamped recycling program at HCCS. ALL grades are welcome to join us on Tuesdays, room 302. Hope to see you there!

Seventh Grade Play Festival
Over the course of this quarter, every seventh grader has been involved in writing, rehearsing, and performing plays in CT, and on Friday, March 26th, one play from each class will be presented to the entire grade during periods 4-9. This event is only for students in the seventh grade and their teachers.

Dr. Philip Jeffery, Chair of the HCHS Science Department will discuss what’s happening in the science department; independent student research, the skills and attitudes needed, and guidelines to apply for these opportunities; national science competitions; and writing, illustration and teaching opportunities.
Then Alison Ferst, Clinical Psychology and Substance Abuse Consultant at HCHS will speak openly about helping students navigate the perils and pressures of life at Hunter, share observations from within the Counseling Department, reveal coping strategies used by students, and give advice on how parents can support their child’s academic success and overall well being.

Farm Fresh Produce on March 23rd!
On Tuesday, March 23, Hunter will kick off a program with the Queens County Farm Museum. Students and faculty are invited to try fresh produce straight from the farm in our very own cafeteria. Lunch will feature BBQ Chicken, Veggie Wrap, Oven Roasted Potatoes, and a special lunch salad, Farm Fresh Mixed Greens with Lemon-Honey Dressing.
Menu items are recreated by our wonderful French Culinary Institute chef, Olivia Bonomi Todorov, who vollunteers weekly in the Hunter kitchen. Olivia was born in Italy and has lived in the United States, Central Africa and South East Asia. On her travels she discovered new spices, exotic fruits and vegetables and has sampled dishes the world over. When she settled in New York City she became a professional chef, graduating from The French Culinary Institute, and has worked in some of the most prestigious kitchens in New York, including Jean-Georges, Acquavit and Abigail Kirsch. Stop by and say hello to Olivia, try her delicious food, and give a word of thanks for the wonderful and generous service she is providing to our school this year.
