MARINE club presents “I can’t believe it’s alive!”

When and Where: Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Room 407 (4th floor lab) during Activities Period

All students are welcome to come and see live blood circulation in a goldfish’s tail under the microscope! Students in grades 7-12 from MARINE club will be showing a demo of live capillary motion on a projection board, where you will be able to actually see blood cells moving. We’ll also be having a discussion addressing questions including: “How is the circulatory system in fish similar to ours? How is it different? Why we should even care?” Are you curious now? Well, you’ll just have to come and check it out! If you have any questions or comments, please email Kily Wong or Lia Heintjes at alphawolfegurl@aim.com and lia.heintjes77@gmail.com

TOMORROW: Civis Femina Interest Meeting

Due to scheduling conflicts of many of the interested, we have moved our meeting time and location to: Monday, 5th Period, Room 320.

"Securing women's rights is central to all our hopes for peace, security, and sustainable development."- UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon

"Excellence without humanity is worthless."- Harold Koh, former dean of Yale Law School. Connect these two ideas together. So many women around the world are deprived of even the most elementary education, but instead are plunged into domestic violence, forced marriages, death in childbirth, and war rape, etc. Civis Femina seeks to empower girls in their young ages to step up and use the power of their education to bring beautiful change to the lives of women that are less privileged. COME AND JOIN US! Contact our club at hunter@civisfemina.org for more information.

PTA

Attention Hunter parents: The Auction Team is looking for someone to spearhead an advertising committee that will sell advertising and sponsorships for the Hunter College High School's auction website.

Are you organized? Creative? A people person? We can use you! Maybe you even have experience in business, media, sales, advertising, or communications? (great but not necessary). What is necessary is that you want to put your organizational skills and talent to work helping your kid’s school raise much needed funds.

So you'd love to help, but the demands of family, work, and life get in the way? No problem. Set your own hours, work from home...we will help you build a team and figure out how to take advantage of this as yet untapped but potentially very profitable resource.

If you're interested in finding out more, please contact the Auction Co-Chairs, Jocelyn Markowitz (rmarkowitz@nyc.rr.com) or Judy Weinstein (Directjudy@aol.com).

Please Support the Annual Fund!!

Imagine our school without varsity sports, a music program, clubs, or new library books. All of these aspects of the school, and much more, exist due to your contributions to the Annual Fund. We need your help to keep all of the programs supported by the PTA up and running. We are so thankful to those who have already donated. However, only about 30% of families have given so far. We are aiming for 100% participation! Only three weeks left to make your Annual Fund Donation in time for a 2010 Tax Break!!! Make your contribution with a credit card online at www.HunterPTA.org, or send a check to HCHS PTA Annual Fund, 71 E. 94th St., NY, NY 10128. While you are on the website, check out the amazing video filmed by Stacey Lippman highlighting the importance your contributions have on our children (password: hunterhawks). Contact the Annual Fund Chairs with any questions—Lee Krug (krugl@mskcc.org) and Stacey Lippman (slippman13@gmail.com).
