TOMORROW: Civis Femina

Monday, 5th Period, Room 320.

We've decided to support young girls who want to pursue their education in Nepal! We will be holding fundraisers after the break and once we're in touch with the school, will be communicating with our beneficiaries through letter-writing, etc. Join us! (Civis Femina seeks to empower girls in their young ages to step up and use the power of their education to bring beautiful change to the lives of women that are less privileged.) COME AND JOIN US! Contact our club at hunter@civisfemina.org for more information.

Overheard in Hunter (from The Observer)

Old man: This is obviously... an important street.
Old woman: It's Broadway.
--Broadway & 54th

Overheard any funny, interesting, or even silly conversations in the hallway, Starbucks, or classroom lately? Well now you can submit them to be printed in The Observer! Jot it down quickly on the corner of your notebook, a looseleaf, or back of your homework, whatever and just slip it into our envelopes. Envelopes for Overheard in Hunter can be found at the end of each grade hallway. (Please keep all conversations anonymous.) You can also e-mail them directly to features.hchsobserver@gmail.com. Be sure to check out our next issue!

Greetings from the HCHS Library Committee

PTA

Seeking new Chairperson for Library Committee (for Fall 2011)!

This is an easy and very rewarding job.

Requirements:

- support and advocate for our library

- maintain open communication with Librarian, Eugene Lim

- convene 2 or 3 meetings a year (via email) and meet in the HCHS Library

- co-write (with Mr. Lim) an occasional letter (to college or alums)

- submit 1 or 2 articles in Hilites to keep parents informed

- attend PTA meetings

- other tasks as needed

As outgoing Chair, I will train you and advise you. Currently there are 12 members on the committee. Chances are that one of the many 7th grade parents on the committee might step up as co-chair.

My daughter is a senior, so this is it for me. I have found this position fulfilling and have come to admire Mr. Lim and have enjoyed working with him and the other parents. Please send any responses or queries to Rebecca Reitz (rebreitz@aol.com).
